03.31.11 : basement obsession

As previously documented, Kaesea is obsessed with our basement and is always looking for an opportunity to go exploring down there. This has not changed one bit.

03.30.11 : what is going on over there?

(Kaesea is watching you... verrrry closely.)

03.29.11 : all a-glow

My little angel -- hard to believe this precious looking sweetie pie left me a disgusting stinky pile of nightmare that woke me up at 2am, isn't it?

Oh, but he did.

03.28.11 : we take playtime very seriously

See the little bit of purple in this photo? It's a catnip-infused pon-pom that Kaesea was going nuts on for several minutes before I took this photo.

Then he looked straight at me with this super-serious look in his face.

I am not f-ing around. It's playtime, dammit.

03.24.11 : tilapi-YEAH!

In a time-honored tradition shared by mothers everywhere, I am now embarking upon a misguided mission to heal my sick cat through food.

Today? It was Tilapia "Appetizers" by Fancy Feast.

Kaesea doesn't seem to mind. :)

And then... the cancer came back.

No one knows exactly what happened to Kaesea last year, when, after a year-long battle with illness, he decided to start eating again and gain weight. Since then, although we have been grateful, we have been waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Today, it did.

Although I've been in denial about it, he has been losing weight over the past six months. This week, almost exactly one year to the day since his last vet visit, we took him in for a re-check. He's lost over 2 lbs since that time. He weighs 9.19 lbs now (vs. 11.31 lbs then). Damn.

His doctor was lovely and hopeful that it was anything other than the cancer. Maybe diabetes? Pancreatitis? You know... something that has an easy treatment? But no... today's x-rays confirmed our fears: it's the cancer.

Even though I knew it was coming, it was still a blow. This past year has been truly wonderful. We have had our darling kitty for an extra 2 years that we never thought we would. But now... well, a cat's only got nine lives.

Even Kaesea.

We've decided not to go back to chemo, since it almost killed him last time [warning: that link goes back to all of November 2009, so if you click on it, there's a lot to read. Apparently, I had a lot to say.]

Our plan now is to support him the best we can. At this point, that means B12 injections (Kaesea's great-grandmother swears by her own B12 injections, so it must be good, right?) as well as some kitty pro-biotics which will, hopefully, help with some of the digestion issues.

The good news is that he is still eating on his own, so we'll do our best to keep that up as long as possible. When that stops, we can try an appetite stimulant, but we've struggled with that in the past, so we'll deal with it when that day comes.

In a nutshell, for the rest of his time with us: support, love, and, of course... lots of photos!

Photos like this one -- they shaved Kaesea's belly today for the ultrasound. He's embarrassed and doesn't want to show anyone. Check out this kitty version of the "fig leaf" pose:

(God, I love that cat's fluffy paws.)

We are SO grateful for the time we have had with our darling "miracle" kitty. We feared this day would come and, alas, now it has. Thank you for being here.

03.20.11 : oh, brother.

Neither of 'em look terribly thrilled here, do they?

Meanwhile, this photo highlights Biscuit's chunky butt -- he has gotten huge over the past couple of years. Before this ordeal began, he weighed about 7 lbs and Kaesea weighed around 12. Now Kaesea weighs less than 10 and Biscuit weighs 11! WOW!

03.17.11 : wearing o' the green

Clearly, Kaesea does not want to get pinched.

He's got his green on:

03.15.11 : at the watering hole

This photo is remarkable because it's an angle I have never shot of Kaesea before. This may not seem that exciting, but seriously? I thought I had gotten every possible shot of this cat and have recently resorted to fun photo treatments and post-processing.

But today? I got a fresh one! This is Kaesea sniffing the bathroom counter.

So I guess it's not that exciting. But... look at that chin! Just look at it!

03.10.11 : the princess and the pea

Hilarious scene this morning-- there was a stack of quilts on the end of the bed and Mr. Princess immediately climbed on top of them to camp out:

Kaesea sez: "What? I liiike a fluffy bed!"

03.08.11 : quilt = mine

Got out the St. Patrick's Day quilt this week...
Kaesea immediately claimed it for himself.

Of course, then his brother hopped up to say, "Mine too! Mine too!"
