01.18.10 [daily photo]
This is a rare photo of Kaesea sitting up. Usually, as soon as he sees the camera, he flops right over for a full-on "Look at how cute I am! Don't you want to lie down with me?" coy pose.
Right after I snapped this photo, that is exactly what he did.
Meanwhile, I'm loving how big he looks here. I'm going to need a wide-angle lens soon! Compare his size to this photo, taken in October. Wow. Go, Kaesea!

Mr. Flop
Kaesea is continuing to do well. He's been fluctuating between 10.4 and 10.8 pounds over the past week. Sometimes he runs around more, sometimes he eats less, and, of course, our bathroom scale isn't that accurate. Still hoping for 11 pounds, but we continue to wrestle with the picky eating.
We've had a couple of days this week where he seemed a bit glum, but he's continuing to eat and purr and play and be fluffy, so maybe it's just January blahs. Who knows. (Another time I wish cats could talk.)
Here's a random story about a recent funny change in Kaesea's behavior...
For as long as I can remember, I have been able to get Kaesea to lie down by scratching his cheeks while he is standing, then putting my hand down on the surface where I want him to lie down (usually the bed) and wiggling my fingers. He'll bend down at first for the continued cheek scratch and then he quickly gets tired of leaning so he lies down to get easier access to the Scratchin' Hand. I usually scratch his cheeks for a few more minutes and then he passes out.
In the last month or so, he has developed a new way of dealing with the beckoning hand on the bed -- he lies down right on top of it. Like: "Hmm... that hand looks comfy. I'll just plop my belly right down on it!" and then Flop! He's lying on top my hand.
The first couple of times he did this, I was surprised and ended up with a cramp in my arm from extended uncomfortable positioning (because of course I couldn't move my hand with my precious kitty woogums snuggled up on it, right?) Now I'm prepared, so I make sure that my arm is in a comfortable position before Mr. Flop comes and pins me down for the night. Heh.
No idea why he's suddenly started doing this, but it's pretty funny. Once he lies down on my hand, he starts purring like crazy and kneading his paws. "I've got you now!" Love that little weirdo.

Still hanging in
Hard to believe we're already 9 days into a new year. Time really does fly. Not much to report here. Kaesea has lost a small amount of weight, so he's been fluctuating between 10.4 and 10.6. I was really excited about the upward trend (10.8! Wow!) but I'm still glad he's over 10 lbs.
He hasn't been eating as well in the morning for the past several days as he had been previously... I have no idea why. But it does explain the dip in weight. He eats like a champ at night and munches on kibble all day, so now I just have to figure out what his "perfect breakfast food" is. Of course.
Other than that, he's playful and happy and purring, so that's great news. It's been so nice to see him with more meat on his bones lately -- think hungry thoughts for Kaesea, wouldja?
I missed taking photos for the last couple of days -- it's so hard in the winter, getting home after the sun goes down. Grr. Oh, well, the days are slowly getting longer now. Just need to be patient. Hope everyone has had a wonderful first week of the new year.

Happy New Year
And it is -- we've had a very happy 2010 so far. As always, I am reluctant to report good news as I have a fear of jinxing (not unfounded, mind you!) but I also want to keep everyone informed about how our boy is doing.
Short answer: He's been doing great.
Longer answer: He's been eating so much lately and really gaining weight. The last few days, the bathroom scale has showed him at 10.6 lbs. This is amazing news. Amazing. He looks so good! I actually said "Oof!" yesterday when I picked him up. (The difference between a 9.2lb cat and a 10.6lb cat is oof-worthy.) While the rest of us are resolving to lose weight in the new year, Kaesea has resolved to gain weight. And I like it!
Other than the weight gain, everything else is also going well -- playful, purring, fluffy, happy, and generally ruling the roost. Bill recently commented that Kaesea looked "regal." Hrm... I think he needs a crown, don't you?
As I write this, he is snoring away in one of his favorite spots -- Bill's chair. I hope everyone reading this is having a great year so far. Here's to 2010!
