So I've been waiting for a few days to post this, as I have a very healthy respect for jinxes, especially those invoked by posting good news regarding the health of our beloved Kaesea.
But I can't hold back any longer. Kaesea went to his vet last week and he weighed in at 11.31 lbs. That's up about 1/2 lb from his last visit. Last month.
Yes, Kaesea is rapidly gaining weight. Not only that, but his doctor basically said, "Well... guess we're done here." To be honest, I am still processing this but, in a nutshell, we have somehow been through this horrible, grueling year to come out on the other side as though it never happened.
I am grateful and happy, but also astounded. We had fully expected to nurse our sick kitty from now until the day he died, but he decided that he didn't want to be sick anymore, so here he is. Fat, fluffy, and full of himself. Of course, he may get sick again someday and I did talk to the doctor about what to expect when your cat dies of cancer (weight loss, lack of eating. Right. Got it.)
But, for now, Kaesea is well. He is healthy. It's amazing. We are so happy. That's an understatement, but I don't know how to put it. It's just incredible.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. I can never express how grateful we are for what you have given us.
As for Kaesea's daily photos... I'm going to try to continue to take them. I know that nothing lasts forever, so I will always be happy to have a million photos of him when he is gone someday.
Also, it's hilarious when he wears costumes.
Big, huge, kitty kisses to everyone! If you were here, Kaesea would give you a headbutt.

The way Kaesea was sitting when I took this photo, he looked like a Butterball turkey. I love to see him looking so fat!
Meanwhile, the face he's making in that photo is hilarious -- like he's embarrassed that he ate so much at dinner. Don't be, Kaesea -- you look fantastic!
And here's the version of it that I captured when I took the time machine back to the early 70s:
Ha!

As promised, another fake blast-from-the-past, courtesy of Hipstamatic. This app was totally worth $1.99.

I have been experimenting with some iPhone apps that basically embrace the crappy quality of iPhone photos by making them look intentionally crappy.
What do I mean by that? Well, this one looks like something that's been in a box in your basement since 1971:
Ha! The app is called Hipstamatic and I guess I should reject it due to its extreme hipness, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it. I like taking photos, but have previously shied away from using the iPhone because of the absolute crap quality of the photos it takes.
This, however, cracks me up. All Kaesea needs in this photo is a giant afro. I can just imagine that he is holding a daisy out to me in his cropped out paw. Hee hee.
All this to say: you'll probably be seeing more of Kaesea from the 70s soon here.

Of all of the stuff Kaesea loves to lie down on, my clothes are probably his favorite (Bill's are a close second). I gave him a treat by throwing my jacket down on the bed when I came home. About .5 seconds later, Kaesea was on top of it.
Who, me? What's that you say? Your jacket?
No, no, you are mistaken. This jacket is mine.

Goals
When I started this blog 11 months ago, I posted this photo of Kaesea:
When he was in the hospital last April, I printed a copy of it and I wrote "Our Goal" on the bottom. I hung it in Kaesea's cage, where he (and I, for the most part) spent 11 long days.
People who saw it would ask "When was that taken?" and I would say, "3 weeks ago."
This was usually met with silence. Stunned silence. Sad silence. The silence of realizing how quickly things can change. And do.
Here is what Kaesea looked like in the hospital, with that photo -- our goal -- posted over him. Note that this photo was taken towards the end of his stay, when he was looking better:
That first photo was taken in March 2009.
The second was taken one month later.
Since April, we have had Kaesea's "goal" photo tucked up on the wall in our kitchen:
Two nights ago, I looked down at Kaesea and he looked up at me.
I took this photo:
Look out, Goal, we are heading your way.
Wow.

I have mentioned before that Kaesea loves to lie down on stuff. Even if it looks totally uncomfortable. Like, you know, this cutting board.
It's white, so I use it for photographic backgrounds. Left it on the bed for a moment and whamo! Kaesea was lying on it.
Little weirdo.
